The Fire and Rescue Service for Dorset
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was formed on 1 April 2016 and covers four authority areas: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Dorset, Swindon and Wiltshire. It runs 50 stations, 38 of them on-call. In the year to March 2026 its average total response to a primary fire was 11 minutes 13 seconds and it reached 65.1 per cent of dwelling fires within ten minutes. It also has the highest share of automatic alarm false calls of the five services covering the South West, at 30.8 per cent of all incidents attended.
What Has to Be Sent to the Fire Service in Dorset
Regulation 6 plans go by email, PDF only, 20MB per file, with an automatic reply confirming receipt. The service runs a dedicated mailbox for secure information boxes and publishes the fullest contents list of the five, already updated to include the building emergency evacuation plan required under the 2025 residential evacuation regulations.
Automatic Alarms and Whether They Get a Response in Dorset
This is the most block-friendly alarm policy of the five. Since 1 April 2024 the service no longer attends automatic alarms at low-risk commercial premises, but the first exemption it lists is domestic and residential buildings, without qualification. A call challenge process applies, starting with whether the source of the alarm has been investigated, and the service is explicit that investigating an activation is the responsibility of the premises rather than the fire service. It will always respond to a 999 call reporting a fire or sign of fire in any premises at any time.
