The Fire and Rescue Service for Gloucestershire
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service covers 1,044 square miles from 22 stations, with almost 88 per cent of the county classed as rural. In the year to March 2026 its average total response to a primary fire was 11 minutes 17 seconds and to a dwelling fire 10 minutes 6 seconds, which misses both of its own published standards of 10 and 9 minutes. The service publishes the split that explains it: over three years its wholetime stations averaged 8 minutes 45 seconds and its on-call stations 13 minutes 23. Fires in flats took 8 minutes 53, the slowest flat response of the five services covering the South West.
What Has to Be Sent to the Fire Service in Gloucestershire
Gloucestershire asks for two things on regulation 6 floor plans that the national guidance does not: individual dwelling and flat numbers, and identification of maisonettes and split-level flats. It also asks that nothing beyond its listed items is added, to keep plans consistent across the service area. PDF only, 20MB per file, a separate plan for each floor. Note that its business fire safety pages sit at the root of the county council website and do not appear in the fire service site map, so they are easy to miss entirely.
Automatic Alarms and Whether They Get a Response in Gloucestershire
Gloucestershire has the strictest and oldest alarm policy of the five. Since 1 August 2015 it has not responded to an automatic alarm at any time unless a 999 call confirms a fire or physical signs of one. Purpose-built blocks of flats are not named in its exemption list, which covers domestic dwellings and houses in multiple occupation, and the service has not published how it categorises a communal panel in a block. Do not assume either way. It is the only one of the five with a published route to apply for an exemption, and the only one that names double-knock configuration as a basis for one, both through its alarm enquiries address.
